Carrying

Rebozo vs ring sling

A Mexican cotton rebozo is a woven rectangle. A ring sling is that same cloth plus two rings — or a purpose-built sling sold with rings attached. Convert after birth when you want a hip carry with hardware. This is not a buckle-carrier fight and not Ergobaby. Both need T.I.C.K.S.

Mexican cotton rebozo (tied) Ring sling (rebozo + rings, or purpose-built)
What it is Woven cotton rectangle with fringe. Garment first; also carries, labors, wraps. Same rectangle threaded through two aluminum rings — or a sling built with rings already on.
Hardware None. Tie the cloth. Two rings. Lola sells them separately: aluminum rings.
Typical length 98″ or 118″ for a hip carry. 196″ for a full two-shoulder wrap (no rings). Same 98″ or 118″ rectangle once rings are on. Purpose-built slings have their own size chart.
When to convert Stay tied for labor, cierre, and a simple hip carry. After birth, when you want an adjustable one-shoulder hip carry with hardware.
Labor / postpartum Yes. Rings stay in the drawer. Not what the rings are for.
Safety T.I.C.K.S. every time. See babywearing. Same T.I.C.K.S. Learn the ring pass from a person.
Price band, about Lola cotton ~$29–$70 (98″ ~$42 default) Same cloth + rings sold separately — or a purpose-built sling’s own price.
Vs stretchy wrap / buckle Different aisle from knit Moby/Solly — see rebozo vs stretchy wrap. Not Ergobaby. Still not a buckle carrier. Still not jersey.

I am not at war with ring slings. A good ring-sling pass is a useful hip finish. It is also optional. A tied rebozo hip carry does the same job family without hardware. Buy rings only if you want that adjustable finish — from the rings collection, not bundled into a labor story.

Questions

Is a rebozo the same as a ring sling?

No. Woven rectangle versus rectangle plus rings (or a purpose-built sling). Same hip-carry family — different finish. Both need T.I.C.K.S.

Do I need rings to wear a baby in a rebozo?

No. Tie a hip carry. Buy aluminum rings only if you want the ring-sling finish after birth.

When should I convert?

After birth, for an adjustable one-shoulder hip carry. Labor and postpartum wrapping leave the rings in the drawer. Learn the pass from a person.

What about a buckle carrier?

Different aisle. This page is rebozo versus ring sling. Soft-structure carriers and Ergobaby are a third conversation.
