Can I use a stretchy wrap the way I use a rebozo?

Not for the same jobs. Stretchy wraps are built for close newborn carries and typically retire once the baby outgrows that window. A cotton rebozo can do a hip carry, labor work, and postpartum wrapping — different cloth, different life.

Q: Is a rebozo the same as a stretchy wrap like a Moby or Solly?

No. A Mexican rebozo is woven cotton with fringe — a garment that can also carry a baby, wrap a belly, and work in labor. Stretchy wraps are knit/jersey cloth, usually newborn-window only, and they are not a rebozo. Both must pass T.I.C.K.S.

A Mexican cotton rebozo is woven — no jersey stretch like a knit. Stretchy wraps (Moby, Solly, and kin) are knit/jersey and usually stay in the newborn window. This is not a buckle-carrier fight and not Ergobaby. Both need T.I.C.K.S. Neither is the other.

I am not at war with stretchy wraps. A good Moby or Solly helped a lot of new parents through the first weeks. It is also a different cloth. If you only want a soft newborn nest and your educator taught that wrap, buy that wrap. If you want one cotton rectangle that can sift a belly, close a hip, and carry a toddler on one hip, buy a rebozo.

Do not confuse either with a European woven wrap — that is woven too, but purpose-built as a carrier, usually longer and priced higher. Acrylic “baby wrap shawls” already lost on cotton vs acrylic.

Which is better for a newborn?

The tight, high, visible carry is safer. Stretchy wraps are designed for that early window; a rebozo can hold a newborn only if the hold passes T.I.C.K.S. and you have learned it from a person. Brand name is not a safety feature.
