Fiber foil
Acrylic rebozo
An acrylic rebozo is usually a machine-made synthetic shawl in a long rectangle — sold as a “doula shawl,” “Mexican wrap,” or “baby rebozo,” often around $17. Same long shape as a working cotton rebozo. Wrong fiber. I will not brand-bash a seller. I will name the materials fork.
Fiber is the first fork. Lola ships 100% cotton from a telar de pedal (foot-pedal loom), about $29–$70 across four lengths. How to tell in a listing
- Read the fiber. If it does not say cotton (or wool, or silk), walk on.
- Look at the fringe — glued tassels are a scarf signal.
- About $17 with the word “rebozo” is usually this foil, not Lola’s cotton band.
- For carrying: also fail an open weave (finger through). See when NOT to carry.
Acrylic has uses. It is not this garment. No invented weavers or towns. This glossary is teaching, not a stock list.
Questions
Is every cheap rebozo acrylic?
No. Price alone is not the test — fiber is. A working cotton cloth can sit about $29–$70. A $17 listing that says acrylic (or says nothing) is the foil. See how to choose.
Can I use acrylic for labor if that is what I have?
