Rapacejo
Rapacejo is the finger-finished fringe on a Mexican rebozo. The warp threads that end the weaving are grouped and worked by hand, so the edge belongs to the cloth — not to a pair of scissors. It is an authenticity signal. It is not a SKU.
A working rebozo is woven to length. That is the sentence on what is a rebozo. Rapacejo is what that sentence looks like at the end of the rectangle: fringe that grew out of the loom, then got finished with fingers. You should not see a scissors line through printed yardage pretending to be a shawl.

How to read it in the hand
Hold the end. The threads should look like they came out of the weave, then got grouped and knotted or finger-worked. That is rapacejo. Missing fringe, a cheap knotted afterthought, or a cut edge dressed up later is the foil — the same family as the $17 acrylic “doula shawl.” The calm materials table is authentic cotton vs acrylic.

Questions
Is every fringed shawl a rebozo?

Does a nicer rapacejo mean a better carrier?
